Braemar Wins Valley Cup over Porter Valley 64 - 44
Each year Braemar and Porter Valley engage in a two day competition named the Valley Cup. This year's tournament was played on August 22nd & 23rd. There are 24 players representing Braemar in the Valley Cup verses Porter Valley 24 players. The 24 players on each team are comprised of the top 22 point earners from the Men's Club Tournaments plus the Braemar head golf pro and the Braemar general manager. Due to prior commitments our General Manager, Ryan Wingo, could not participate so our Head Chef, Robert Lia was our 24th member.
The Valley Cup standings can be seen here. The cut line is set at the top 22 players. There were six Men's Club members who were included in the top 22 but due to prior commitments could not play on the designated weekend. Therefore, the cut line was dropped to include the top 28 golfers.
Saturday's play was held at Porter Valley Country Club. Each side provided twelve two-man teams for head-to-head competition. The format was a point for nine holes of "better ball of partners," a point for nine holes of "alternate shot," and a point for the 18 hole aggregate score.
Sunday's play was held at Braemar Country Club. There were 24 single matches with the head golf pro's of each club matched against each other and the general managers of each club matched together. As mentioned earlier Robert Lia substituted for Ryan Wingo.
Having lost by a very narrow margin last year, Braemar won handily 64 - 44 to bring the trophy to our trophy case.
Three points were on the line, front 9, back 9, and overall 18, in Sunday's head-to-head competition. Here are the Braemar golfers who won all three points in their individual matches. Bill Ackerman, Matt Barash, Seth Jamison, Mitch Mulbarger, David Phillips, Ron McCarthy, and Stephen Kirsch.

Congratulations to Ken Goodfried and Dane Throop who won all three points in Saturday's Valley Cup competition. Winning all the points in a match is hard. Winning all the points in a match on the competition's home course is immensely difficult. Job well done to these accomplished golfers.
